According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a bulb is the “Globular base of stem of some plants sending roots down and leaves up.” Listed beneath this rather unattractive and hardly inspiring description you will find the words ‘Bulge’, followed by ‘Bulk’. Not the most romantic placement in the dictionary for what I consider very romantic little chaps indeed.
